Professor Andrew Hursthouse, Assistant Dean (Research & Enterprise) in the UWS School of Science and Sport, was recently awarded the Liangcheng Friendship Award of Xiangtan City, Hunan.
The prestigious award is given every two years to individuals - technical experts, academics and industrialists, for example - who have made significant contribution to the development of Xiangtan and the wider region.
Andrew currently is undertaking environmental research with partner organisation Hunan University of Science and Technology (HNUST) in China.
Commenting on his award Professor Hursthouse said “I am absolutely delighted to be recognised by the City Government in this way.
“Our collaboration with HNUST focuses on research to improve the wider environment and protect human and ecosystem health. We have a strong partnership with academics and research students at HNUST and look forward to continuing our important collaborative research.”
Andrew is currently a High End Expert Scholar in China supported by the Hunan Regional Government and HNUST, and has been working with colleagues in China since 2014. His award was announced in December 2017 at a ceremony in Xiangtan City.
