PREPARING YOU TO MEET TOMORROW’S HEALTH AND LIFE SCIENCE CHALLENGES TODAY

Our School of Health & Life Sciences offers a variety of innovative courses with hands-on experience and work in virtual and real-life ward situations. Nursing and midwifery courses focus on health education and preventative medicine, from degree to Doctorate level, in line with government objectives. Life sciences courses have been developed in collaboration with industrial and educational partners which positively shape your learning experience, putting you in an enviable position when entering the job market. We have also developed a reputation for excellence in sport, and our growing portfolio of programmes integrate biological and behavioural approaches to enhance human health and performance.

INTERNATIONAL:

Our School offers wide opportunities for international exchange, through our links with institutions across Europe. Our students have also had the opportunity to spend time in China, with UWS partner institution, University of South China (USC) in Hengyang, Hunan Province. They undertook a a two-week field course and had an invaluable opportunity to take part in Chinese lessons and cultural shows, visited hospitals and other health organisations, and got involved in a range of recreational activities with USC students.

RESEARCH:

One of the key areas of research within the School is our pioneering work with Alzheimer Scotland through the creation of the UWS Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice, to provide a high quality environment for applied research, education and social enterprise. The Centre works collaboratively with people with dementia, carers, and the scientific and practice communities to advance evidence-informed dementia policy and practice.  The School has also been involved in collaborative work with NHS colleagues on an award-winning sepsis screening app, being used across the UK and overseas.  Research Institutes  Across the School our research is coordinated by the following Research Institutes:  Institute of Health and Care Research Institute of Biomedical & Environmental Health Research (IBEHR) Institute of Clinical Exercise and Health Science
